Life in Afghanistan is hard. Unbelievably hard. Abject poverty, ill health, a lack of sanitation, infrastructure, clean water and a decent home is life for the majority of the population.
Despite a major international construction effort, co-led by the UK Government, Afghanistan remains one of the world’s poorest countries - struggling to get back on its feet, whilst remaining dependent on military, charity and government aid.
Afghan Action, wholly owned by the UK charity Afghan Training Foundation, offers hope of a brighter future to young people in Afghanistan. We're helping them train to become carpet weavers. And we also provide daily classes in literacy and numeracy, on-site health care and a nourishing midday meal.
Once trained, our young people can use their skills to work under fair trade conditions, providing badly needed income, to help themselves, their families and their local communities.
