Promoting the Afghan Community in Britain

Afghan Action doesn’t just work in Afghanistan. We want to give Afghans based in the UK a voice and want to tell the wider public about Afghan culture as a means of changing the perception of Afghanistan. Our DFID funded Building Bridges programme does just that. We hold various events across the country, from seminars to storytelling sessions, to help foster greater understanding for all and encourage an exchange of ideas. Read more about our work here.

Developing Awareness of Afghan Culture in UK schools

We have an excellent schools programme. Across the UK, we hold special lessons as part of the regular school day which teach children about Afghanistan. They can design a carpet, dress up in traditional Afghan clothes and make kites. Read more if your school would like to take part here.

Carpets develop economic opportunities for the next generation

Our trainees are a very talented group, and the carpets that they weave are a testament to this. They make ideal presents and there is a style for every home. Take a look at the full selection, retailed for us online by Nomads Tent, here.

Afghan Action trainees weave their way to success

Afghanistan, as most people know, is one of the poorest countries in the world and has been unstable for decades. Afghan Action wants to give Afghans the opportunity to change this. To this end, we employ twenty five male and female trainees at our training school, all of whom have been greatly affected by the ever-present conflict. Read more about them here.
